Switch from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365

You can use the following steps to move your data, email, and users from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 for business. Use the articles and videos in each step to help you prepare and configure your environment to migrate and use the migration tools available to you in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Step Description
Step 1 Sign up for Microsoft 365 for business.
Step 2 Set up Microsoft 365 for Google Workspace migration.
Find the Google migration tools and prepare your organization.
Step 3 Manage Windows devices with Microsoft Intune.
Configure device protection when users' accounts and licenses are ready.
Step 4 Add your Google Workspace domain to Microsoft 365.
Verify your business domain and configure users' email addresses.
Step 5 Install Microsoft 365 apps and Microsoft Teams.
Install the apps when users' accounts and app licenses are ready.
Step 6 Migrate everyone's email and calendar items.
Prepare email routing, migrate email, calendars, and contacts, and complete each batch to switch users to Microsoft 365.
Step 7 Connect domain to Microsoft 365.
After all batches are complete, update your business domain's email settings so new messages go to Microsoft 365 instead of Google Workspace. Confirm that mail arrives in Microsoft 365.
Step 8 Use Migration Manager to move everyone's data from personal drives to OneDrive and from shared drives to SharePoint team sites.
Set destinations, choose migration settings, and copy your files.
Step 9 Discontinue Google Workspace but keep your domain.
After completing migration, cancel Google Workspace and maintain your domain registration.
