License options for Microsoft Copilot

Microsoft Copilot is an AI-powered productivity tool that helps users with everyday tasks.

As part of your Microsoft Copilot adoption, make sure you have the right Microsoft 365 subscription plan.

Use this article to determine if your organization has the correct Microsoft 365 subscription plan to add Microsoft Copilot. If you or your account doesn't have the right plan, you can purchase a new plan or possibly upgrade your existing plan.

Microsoft Copilot licenses

To add Microsoft Copilot to your Microsoft 365 subscription, you need one of the following Microsoft 365 subscription plans. You can get the Copilot license as an add-on. Education licenses

An academic offering of Microsoft Copilot is available for faculty, staff, and students aged 13 and older. To get the following plans, use Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) or a Cloud Solution Provider (CSP). Note

Customers with Education or Business subscriptions that don't include Teams can purchase Microsoft Copilot licenses.

Microsoft Copilot Chat

Copilot Chat is an AI prompt and response experience that's automatically included and available to organizations that have an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription. Two Copilot Chat options are available: web-based chat and work-based chat.

  • Web-based chat:

  • Work-based chat:

    • Shows results that the Microsoft Entra work or school account can access.
    • Is available with a Microsoft Copilot license.
