This article contains release notes for Beta Channel builds of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and Project for Windows desktop. Every week, we highlight interesting new features, important fixes, and any significant issues we want you to know about.

  • We often roll out features to Beta Channel over a period of time. This allows us to ensure that things are working smoothly before releasing the feature to a wider audience. If you don't see something described, you'll get it eventually.

  • We fixed an issue where the app closed unexpectedly when the user would attempt to open or import large text files.

  • We fixed an issue where an Excel file was no longer able to be saved due to file corruption with conditional formatting.

  • We fixed an issue where the app closed unexpectedly when opening files with pivot tables and table design in macro-enabled files.

  • With multiple pane scenarios, make sure all the visible panes get drawn for scrolling operation.

  • We fixed an issue where worksheets with right-to-left alignment and frozen panes would sometimes render incorrectly.

  • We fixed an issue in the PowerPoint presenter view where speaker notes from a previous slide would move to the current slide view if no speaker notes were available.

Word

  • We fixed an issue where certain Word documents would not open in compatibility mode.

  • We fixed an issue where the accessibility pane was blank on saving the document in .doc format or when document was in compatibility mode.

  • We fixed an issue where a notification was not disabling as expected in template (.dotx) files with personal information removal enabled in the Change Setting or the Trust Center Settings.

  • We fixed an issue where the Word template (normal.dotm) was overwritten upon exit when the proofing language was set to Japanese.

  • We fixed an issue where styles changed or were applied incorrectly when transitioning to WPM.

  • We fixed an issue where opening certain Word documents would give error, "Word experienced an error trying to open the file."

  • We fixed an issue where the input language of a keyboard converted from Chinese Traditional to English, an error appeared, and the app closed unexpectedly when the name of an Excel sheet was edited.

Outlook

  • We fixed an issue that affected all-day meetings with a reminder on the day of. The meeting did not open, and an error message was displayed.

Word

  • We fixed an issue where characters became invisible when converted to Kanji.

  • We fixed an issue where certain Word documents wouldn't open in compatibility mode.

  • We fixed an issue where styles changed or were applied incorrectly when transitioning to WPM.

Office Suite

  • We fixed an issue where opened Office apps did not automatically start when a laptop was reopened, and an error message appeared after manual relaunch.

  • We fixed an issue where the user was notified of an Alt-text violation after adding and deleting an image.

  • Preview of New Sticky Notes app on Windows available from OneNote app: The new Sticky Notes app allows you to create and recall notes like the classic Microsoft Sticky Notes app, while making it easier to capture screenshots, automatically add the source information to the notes, and more.

  • We fixed an issue where attempting to programmatically set the Formula property on a Linked Picture resulted in a run-time error.

OneNote

  • We fixed an issue where, after switching from an ODM notebook to an ODP notebook with the notebooks pane pinned, the Math Assistant continued to appear in the Draw tab and prompted an error.

Outlook

  • We fixed an issue with user and shared mailboxes where a message sent from a user with saved to Sent Items folder enabled and where DelegateSentItemsStyle is set to 1 is saved in the shared mailbox Sent Items folder.

  • We fixed an issue that caused expanded groups in the message list to become collapsed when changing which column they are arranged by.

  • We fixed an issue where a Meeting window wouldn't close and the meeting wouldn't get added to the organizer's calendar if an image had previously been added into the body of the message and the organizer was attempting to reopen the meeting and add new attendees.

  • Outlook for Windows: Actionable card based Loop components: Add an app to Microsoft 365 that supports link unfurling with an Actionable Card based Loop component. Outlook will show the component when inserting supported links in your email messages. You are able to choose between the new embedded card or a link when sending email.
