Share a semantic model to grant other people or groups access to it. This article explains how to grant access by using the Share semantic model dialog.
Prerequisites
To share a semantic model, you must have Reshare permission for it. For more information about how users acquire permissions, see Semantic model permissions.
Share a semantic model
You can share a semantic model from the OneLake catalog or its details page.
Open the Share semantic model dialog from one of the following locations:
OneLake catalog: In the data items list, open the More options (...) menu for the semantic model, and then select Share.
Semantic model details page: On the semantic model details page, select Share on the action bar.
Enter the names or email addresses of the people or groups that you want to grant access to. You can add distribution groups and security groups.
Select the permissions to grant:
- Allow recipients to modify this semantic model: Grants Read and Write permissions, which allows the recipients to modify the semantic model.
- Allow recipients to share this semantic model: Grants Read and Reshare permission, which allows recipients to grant other users access to the semantic model.
- Allow recipients to build content with the data associated with this semantic model: Grants Read and Build permissions, which allows recipients to create reports and other content based on the semantic model. For more information, see Build permission.
If you clear all checkboxes, recipients get Read permission.
For more information, see Semantic model permissions.
Select Grant access.
Power BI grants access immediately. No further approval is required.
To monitor, change, or remove user access to your semantic model, see Manage semantic model access permissions.
