Livestock introduced to the Nano Cube

The Nano Cube cycled nicely – complete with measurable ammonia and nitrite spikes – and stabilized in just over a week, though it did require some addition of pH buffer to raise the pH.  After the water tested out great at the local fish store, we purchased one dozen blue legged hermit crabs, a green mushroom coral and a branching hammer coral.  The hammer coral opened up nicely this evening and my daughter is digging the hermit crabs.  After the current live stock sit for a while and we’re comfortable managing the tank, I think a brittle star is next on the list.

    Sounds good! I added around 14 hermits to my tank yesterday, most were neon-blue legs :)

    Btw. how much liverock did you put in and what kind of sand?

    I hope everything goes well and you can stand the tempation of adding too many animals :)

    Picture this..you are sitting around playing Xbox late and night and have the munchies...no snackey foods to be found anywhere. Bam, you pop a fish from the tank onto a frying pan and bam..instant yummies. Get a male and female and you have a renewable supply! You can even start a home business..

    HELP!! I just bought a Nano cube and I am confused as to how it works. I filled it up with water but it seems to not pump the water out fast enought. All the filter media is under water!! Is this right?

    Are you sure that one week was enough time? It's a good practice to allow the surviving species in your tank as long as possible to establish a stable population. Corals are efficient killers of these species (pods, etc). Your best bet would have been to allow your rock about 4 weeks, and then add several snails (nassarius, cerith, trochus, astrea) and one fish (possibly a small oscellaris)with regular feedings. The longer you wait and let the environment stabilize and diversify, the more satisfied you'll be with your nano.
