A very good idea to have an end of fully supported service pack, just in time for one more CU before it becomes under extended support. Too many shops will still be running SQL 2012 after July.ThanksChris

Hello,It is recommended to install SP4 now or it validates with app team if the app is compatible with SP4.

Hi Danny,There should not be any functional changes that require new full validations from an application standpoint. Plan affecting changes (if any) are released under a trace flag - so verify if you are running any plan affecting trace flag such as 4199. Still, we will defer to your internal processes about full validation. In any case, we always recommend staging your SP deployments.

Hi,For 'SQL Server 2012 Standard', it says 'not applicable' for the mainstream support end date and the notes says :Support ends 12 months after the next service pack releases or at the end of the product's support lifecycle, whichever comes first. Confusing! If i take the date from the SP3, it would mean i get supported till 7/11/2017. Will SP4 change that date?

Any chance we'll see the previously Enterprise features that were introduced in 2016 SP1 standard making their way into 2012 SP4 Standard/BI? i.e. Compression, Partitioning etc

Hi James,The programming features made available for SQL Server 2016 with SP1 are forward only, meaning SQL Server 2012 and 2014 are not included.

Good day, eh.According to the following MSDN Blog link, the new servicing policy for SQL Server means no more SPs and only CUs starting with SQL Server 2017. Please verify that this does not include SQL 2012 and that SP4 will still be released.https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/sqlreleaseservices/announcing-the-modern-servicing-model-for-sql-server/Thanks,Bob.

If you aren't having issues with SP3, is it necessary to install this? I don't see anything about security issues or fixes. I'm assuming it's "recommended"....
