Business value
Supply Chain Management now lets organizations consolidate logistics operations into a single legal entity dedicated to managing warehousing, inventory, and transportation for multiple other legal entities. For example, you might have sales offices in multiple states or multiple countries, all of which share a single, central department that handles warehousing, inventory, and deliveries for all of the sales offices. This can help make large organizations more efficient because it allows each legal entity to specialize and concentrate on those business areas that they excel at.
Feature details
Warehouse management only mode lets you create a legal entity in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management that is dedicated to managing warehousing and logistics operations on behalf of other Supply Chain Management legal entities. This functionality builds on the existing ability of Warehouse management only mode to manage warehousing operations on behalf of external ERP systems.
Warehouse management only mode processes purchase and sales orders using new, lightweight source documents dedicated to inbound and outbound shipment orders. These new documents focus on warehouse management and can replace multiple types of documents previously exchanged between legal entities (such as sales, purchase orders, transfers, and more) from a pure warehouse-management perspective.
The system uses a new owner inventory dimension to track the ownership of catalog items shared by multiple legal entities.
This functionality extends the capabilities of the Operate warehouses connected to external order management systems feature announced in late 2023 and allows your logistics operations to manage both internal and external warehouse processes within the same warehouse management system and physical locations.
