How to: Create Application Diagrams
In Visual Studio Team Edition for Architects, you can begin defining applications using Application Designer by creating a solution containing a blank application diagram. From the diagram, you can visually define applications, configure communication pathways between them, and specify application and endpoint settings and constraints. You can later design application systems by composing them from applications defined on the application diagram. For more information, see Overview of Applications on Application Diagrams.
To create a solution with a blank application diagram, use the following procedure. To add a blank or existing application diagram to an existing solution, see How to: Add Application Diagrams to Solutions.
Note
The solution can contain only one application diagram.
To create a solution with a blank application diagram
On the File menu, point to New, and choose Project.
In the New Project dialog box, select Distributed System Solutions under Project Types and then Distributed System under Templates.
Specify a name and location to save the solution.
Visual Studio creates the solution and Application Designer displays the blank application diagram. In Solution Explorer, the diagram appears with an .ad extension in the Solution Items folder. The document tab at the top of the diagram displays the diagram name and an abbreviation ([AD]) representing the designer.
To begin defining applications, see How to: Define Applications on Application Diagrams.
