Data Profile

You create a modem INF file Properties entry using the Data Profile option. The Properties entry contains bitmaps for the following:

  • Supported dial options

  • Speaker volume

  • Speaker mode

  • Modem options

The Properties entry also contains a maximum value for each of the following:

  • Call setup fail time-out (seconds)

  • Inactivity time-out (seconds)

  • DTE rate (bits/second)

  • DCE rate (bits/second)

Tabs in the ProCalc UI are used to access the data-entry screens for each item in the preceding list.

An example of a Properties entry follows:

HKR,, Properties, 1, 80,01,00,00, ff,00,00,00, ff,00,00,00, 07,00,00,00, 0f,00,00,00, f7,03,00,00, 00,c2,01,00, 40,38,00,00

Note   Make sure that the Properties entry contains the correct maximum DTE and DCE speed.

You can generally determine the maximum DTE speed by examining the ModemDet.txt file that Windows generates when a new modem is installed. You can also determine the maximum DTE and DCE by consulting your specific manufacturer's documentation, or by trial and error using any communications program. To find the maximum DTE value, for example, you can use the communications program to transmit initialization strings to the modem that increase DTE speeds until you receive a failure response.
