The new SharePoint experience preview will be available to all customers only from March 3rd, 2026, right after the SharePoint at 25 digital event. See https://aka.ms/spat25
SharePoint is visually refreshed and reorganized for clarity and simplicity, oriented around the core user jobs of Discovering, Publishing and Building with emphasis on simplicity, flexibility, and AI-forward functionality.
Prerequisites
A SharePoint Administrator (or Global Administrator) must first enable the new SharePoint experience in their tenant.
A Microsoft 365 Copilot license is needed for users to access the specific AI features in the new SharePoint experience.
Enable new SharePoint experience (preview)
Go to the SharePoint Admin center and sign in with appropriate credentials.
Go to "Settings", in the left navigation.
Go to the "New SharePoint experience" item in the list of available settings.
In the panel that opens up, check the box and select Save.
Within a few minutes, the new SharePoint experience is enabled in that tenant.
What is in the new SharePoint experience (preview)?
The new SharePoint experience consists of the following changes:
The SharePoint start page is replaced with a Discover experience.
The SharePoint app bar is refreshed with a newer experience
The new app bar will also have Publish and Build destinations.
If you have global navigation enabled in your Home site, the new app bar shows it at the top with the logo and name if provided in the global navigation setup.
Visual updates include neutral app theming that applies a consistent, neutral palette to SharePoint UI surfaces and elevating content forward across key surfaces (including SPFx placeholders). Together, these changes reduce visual noise, improve readability, and bring clearer stucture and visual focus to customer branding and content as users view and edit pages.
Note
Even if you had turned off the SharePoint app bar in your tenant, enabling the new SharePoint experience brings the new app bar experience in your SharePoint sites.
