What is pagefile.sys file? How can I delete it?

These pagefile.sys and other files randomly appeared after I opened up space on C drive (after my last post). So I have been having issues for a while with general activities that require space on Windows drive.

Now when I try to delete those files, it doesn't delete with an error "That file is running". How can I delete this? When I wasn't having any issues with C, like a year ago, I don't remember a file like this eating up my drive space.

I **** using an SSD, 512GB, 80 GB allocated to C drive.

    Hi,

    I am Deeksha. I am an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you. I will be hppy to help you.

    It is Windows system file which is used as virtual memory. When your PC's physical RAM is full than it moves data from RAM to this file. it is very essential for your PC. It can not be deleted but you can reduce this file size because this is system file.

    To reduce this file size , Right click on This Pc or My Computer and click on Properties. Click on Advanced system setting and go to Advanced tab then click on Setting under performance section. Go to Advanced Tab and click on Change under virtual memory section. Uncheck box on Automatically manage paging file size for all drivers and select on No paging file if you do not want it or you can changed its size also.

    Thanks fam this worked, I also allocated some memory around 5 GBs to disc D, so it wouldn't kill my pc, I don't know what would happen if I didn't allocate any. I did it because I got scared lol, anyways thanks.
