Get functionality sooner: Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Service Pack 2 Now Available with New Functionality

I am happy to announce a shift in how we introduce functionality to the world that starts with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Service Pack 2. This service pack includes new functionality. Features of the Day will be coming out starting next week to give highlights and the technical conference will share more detail.

Why? Why are we introducing functionality in service packs?

Several reasons: It's in the best interest the customer and we are doing it smart, so it will not be a major upgrade for every service pack.

The best way to explain why is to tell you a story. Do you remember one of my favorite features in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, Select Printer at Time of Print? Of course you do. Well we had that feature coded and fully tested for over a year before we shipped because we were waiting for a major release. Now features like Select Printer at Time of Print can be delivered to customers sooner through service packs. It's a win win win all around.

 

We introduced around thirty new features in Service Pack 2 which is really exciting. Also coming in the first half of the 2014 calendar we will release another set of features giving customers even more value.

    Pam, this is great news! How will these service packs with new functionality affect any custom development between GP and third-party software? Are the features of such a nature that connections to the third-party software will change or break? Will these features modify any underlying database structures? I ask because it seems that there is a risk for currently certified interactions to need re-testing and modifying with each service pack. That would place an undue burden on Microsoft's partners. Please provide links for any additional information you might have. Thank you!

    Most likely third party software will stay operational because we didn't introduce any table changes in the service pack itself. Features that will need table structure changes will be introduced in a major release or a feature pack release to reduce this risk.
