On being a dev...

When reading Zoe's post last night about the SDE career path at Microsoft, the part at the end about the management-vs-architect route of the developer caught my eye, since my recently former manager has played both of those roles.

“Your manager was an SDE?“ I can hear you say... Ah-ha, that's the funny part. The day I started reporting to him, I made an offhand comment to our general manager that it was odd for a PM to report to a dev manager, no? Our GM promptly picked up the phone and made a call that got Jon's title changed to Group Manager.

I don't think he ever forgave me.

But, at least I was able to give him an outlet to express his thoughts on this situation on the Exchange blog.
