Windows Store error 0x80073cf9

So ironically enough, I had issues downloading my own app (which you can download here!)

Luckily, with the powers of the internet and my fellow Evangelist David Washington (thanks David!) I was able to resolve the issue. 

Try any/all of the tips below if you experience the same issue: 

Try this to fix your download issue:

1)      Go to start

2)      Type “wsreset” hit enter

3)      Try to launch

 That deletes the store caches.

If that doesn’t work try this:

1)      Launch store

2)      Go to settings charm

3)      Click app updates

4)      Click “sync licenses” button

If that doesn’t work try reboot then try again!

Feel free to let me know how this works for you. I'd be interested to learn other ways to fix this issue. That being said, these fixes worked for me :)

    The vast majority of upgraded Windows 8 machines I've seen have a problem with both the store and Windows Update.  They have issues with the cryptographic settings and require them to be deleted so that Windows can generate replacement ones otherwise comms to the MS servers that provide the services fails with an SSL/TLS establishment error. The problem is that all people get is a cryptic message like the above, the English part of the message isn't clear and it has no indication what people should do to fix it - just a try again button and a close if I remember rightly. The thing is, proportionally I've seen this on 9/10 machines, with only freshly/factory installed machines being okay.  Since it affects Windows update/error reporting/etc. it's not easily self-fixable and you have a mass of users out there that can't install anything but desktop apps. Not that that's a bad thing, but the lack of updates is quite serious.

    None of the above worked. Even tried creating the AUInstallAgent folder in %WINDOWSROOT% and still no luck.

    if you use windows 8.1  and cannot download windows apps, and and you see error 0x80073cf9,

  1. go to c:/Windows 2.create new folder with name: AppReadiness
  2. Delete the folder with name: AInstallAgent if this folder exist. Then the  apps are downloaded ok this worked for me.

    Thanks a lot Niko. Your solution worked. All wsreset , app license synch, Folder- AUInstallAgent. - Nothing worked. but your solution of folder  AppReadiness, worked.!!! :) Thanks a lot

    PROBLEMA NA LOJA WINDOWS 8 e 8.1 - Erro 0x80073cf9 - SOLUÇÃO:

  1. C:Windows
  2. Apague a pasta AUInstallAgent
  3. Criar PASTA chamada AppReadiness SEM PRECISAR REINICIAR, PODE IR NA LOJA E INSTALAR OS APPS

    May have worked but I don't know bec I got a new different error code. This fiasco is the last straw and I have promised myself next time its a Mac and good-ye to MicroSuck. Such a wide spread problem and MS does diddlysquat

    First I tried with this solution:

  1. From Start screen, type cmd. From the results, right-click on Command Prompt and choose Run as an Administrator.
  2. Type "net stop wuauserv" and press Enter.
  3. Type "rename c:windowsSoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old
  4. Type "net start wuauserv"and press enter. Secondly with this:
  5. go to c:/Windows 2.create new folder with name: AppReadiness
  6. Delete the folder with name: AInstallAgent if this folder exist. The last what I did was:
  1.      Go to start
  2.      Type “wsreset” hit enter
  3.      Try to launch Thanks to those operations Windows Shop is working again. All solutions I have found in the internet. I've just mixed them.

    Nikos, thanks for the simple solution. If you're a clandestine Microsoft support engineer, I don't care! :) Do wish Microsoft made things a bit easier, though.

    First one idea is working. When I open store by typing "wsreset" from start I was able to download an app which I coudn't download before.

  2. Crear nueva carpeta con el nombre: AppReadiness
  3. Elimine la carpeta con el nombre: AInstallAgent si existe esta carpeta. A continuación, las aplicaciones se descargan ok esto funcionó para mí.
