Changing the folder where Outlook saves attachments

I've lost track of the number of times I have saved an attachment in an email then forgotten where I put it. But help is at hand. You can change the default folder where Outlook saves attachments by editing the registry*.

Fire up the registry editor (Start > Run > regedit) then navigate to HKEY_CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options. Now add a new string value called DefaultPath and enter the folder location where you'd like your attachments to be saved. Personally I use the desktop (C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Desktop) by dafult so I'm less likely to save stuff then forget where I put it.

* WARNING: you should only edit the registry if you know what you're doing! Making a mistake can seriously spoil your day. Proceed with caution!

    Good tip, but woudn't it be easier for Microsoft to add an option in the Options dialog in the Mail Setup | Data Files section to do this?
