Bu yöntemden döndürülen dizinin, dosya ve dizin adlarında geçersiz olan karakter kümesinin tamamını içermesi garanti değildir. Geçersiz karakterlerin tam kümesi dosya sistemine göre farklılık gösterebilir. Örneğin, Windows tabanlı masaüstü platformlarında geçersiz yol karakterleri 1 ile 31 arasında ASCII/Unicode karakterlerinin yanı sıra kanal (|) ve null (\0) içerebilir.
