Stand-Alone Projects

When you are working with a solution that contains only one project, the project is a stand-alone project if you do not see either the solution in Solution Explorer or the commands that act on solutions in the integrated development environment (IDE). When you add or create a second project, the solution and related commands are displayed. They are also displayed for solutions that contain Solution Folders, solutions that were not created as stand-alone projects, and solutions that have been migrated from an earlier version of Visual Studio.

Stand-alone projects can be created in any language. If you are not already working with stand-alone projects but want to, in the General, Projects and Solutions, Options dialog box, clear Always show solution.
