Health checks in Windows App help improve the reliability and performance of connections to Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365. These checks proactively help identify potential issues with the device, network connection, or service reachability that could affect the user experience. This article provides information on the available health check and show you how to access and run health checks using the Windows App.
Available health checks
Windows App includes several health checks. The checks that are currently available include:
Network connection: confirms that the device is connected to a network and can access the internet.
Service reachability: checks connectivity to required service endpoints for Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365. You can find the list of endpoints at Required FQDNs and endpoints for Azure Virtual Desktop.
Windows version: verifies that the installed operating system version is compatible with Windows App.
These checks run when:
- Windows App starts.
- A resource connection is initiated.
- The local device's network connection status changes.
- A user manually reruns the checks.
Prerequisites
Before you can use health checks in Windows App, ensure that you meet the following prerequisites:
A version of Windows App on the following platforms that support health checks:
- Windows: version 2.0.703.0 or later
- macOS: version 11.1.8 or later
- iOS: version 11.1.7 or later
- Android: version 11.0.0.46 or later
Sign in to Windows App with a user account that has access to Azure Virtual Desktop or Windows 365 resources. Health checks aren't currently supported in Government clouds.
View health check results and rerun health checks
Select the relevant tab for your platform.
To view the health check results and rerun the health checks, follow these steps:
Open Windows App on your device. Make sure you're signed in with a user account that has access to Azure Virtual Desktop or Windows 365 resources.
From the left navigation pane, select Health. The Health pane opens and provides a summary of the current health check results. You can expand See all health checks to view the details of each check.
If any health checks fail, review the details and recommended actions to resolve the issue. Contact your IT administrator if you need assistance. IT administrators can use the information in the health check results to troubleshoot issues and contact Microsoft support if necessary.
To run the health checks again, select Check again. The health checks run and the results are updated in the Health pane.
Select Open log to view the health check log. The log provides detailed information about each health check, including the status and any errors encountered.
Telemetry collection
As part of the health check process, data is collected. A curated subset is transmitted to the service to generate actionable insights that correlate system health with user experience. This data includes the specific health checks executed, the trigger event that initiated them, and the resulting status. In there's an error, the telemetry also captures error classification details.
Additionally, network context, such as the type of connection (for example, Wi-Fi), is recorded to help diagnose connectivity issues. All transmitted data is classified as system metadata and is stored in compliance with EUDB guidelines. The retention period for this data is 30 days.
