Accessing Dynamics CRM from a Mac

Apple While requests to use Microsoft Dynamics CRM and CRM Online from a Mac are not terribly frequent, it comes up every once in a while so it is definitely worth addressing.

Supported clients for Dynamics CRM include Internet Explorer 6 (SP2) and later, and Outlook 2003 (SP2) and later.  Unfortunately, Entourage is not a supported client.  And, supported operating systems are all of the Windows flavor.

So, while there's no direct method to do this, there's always a way, right?  Here's a compilation of ideas.

  1. Use Virtual PC, Parallels or Bootcamp software to run Windows on the Mac
  2. Utilize a Citrix/Terminal Server connection.
  3. Read Sonoma Partners' blog on using Firefox with the View Page in IE Tab add-in.: blog.sonomapartners.com/2007/11/microsoft-crm-r.html
  4. Read John Straumann’s thoughts on a J2EE approach: <mscrmguy.blogspot.com/search/label/MSCRM%20on%20a%20MAC%3F>
  5. Read Ben Vollmer’s blog entry from a while back: blogs.msdn.com/midatlanticcrm/archive/2006/08/15/Using-Microsoft-CRM-with-a-Mac.aspx

Keep in mind that none of these methods are supported, but that's not to say they won't work.

Option 3 will not work on a Mac.  IE Tab runs IE within a Firefox tab, so it's only available to Firefox within the Windows environment.

I find it impossible to believe the requests are "not terribly frequent" as I have been requesting this for years.  Also, maybe people understand that MS has closed it's mind to anyone not running Windows so don't keep asking... It is an Important part of any web based software to work on ALL browsers, not just IE.  I have clients even on Windows that DO NOT LIKE IE!  There is no reason to at once force people to use a browser they don't like AND deny an entire set of people use of the product that don't even have that option..  Macs, iPhones, iPads, Linux, and many others. The Mobile Express is abysmal and very limited.  This is NOT a difficult thing to do as almost all others web based products do it.  YES Even Microsoft ones like OWA and SharePoint work from Safari. FIX IT PLEASE!!!!!  There are literally MILLIONS (well maybe 100s of THOUSANDS) of devices sold daily that MS is not supporting with this product.  iPhone, iPad, iPod, Droid, Google, TVs, PlayStations, Etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.....  All with web browsers, all without the ability to use a BROWSER BASED MS Product. Yes I am frustrated.  You should be too...

I don't understand that a web browser application does not run under MAC. Does Microsoft know the existence of iPhone. It's just the most sold phono in the world. What is Microsoft going to do about of Mac users. We got PC and MAC in the office and just invested in CRM Dynamics. So, please make this work for MAC or tell clients clearly that it does not work of MAC so they can make the right dicision. Well, I expect Microsoft to react.

The only solution is to use the mobile verso, generally adding /m at the URL end. Our supplier claims that Redmond will announce this week the support of Firefox and Safari, we'll see....

That's really unbelievable that Microsoft still is acting in this way.  The world has changed, but Microsoft...  Yes, we can ask you to fix this.  We are your customers and you are there because of us. So do your job!  Best regards.
