You can't remotely administer MSMQ Triggers (Things you didn't know you didn't know #1)

There I was cruising along in innocent ignorance when I'm asked "why can't I see the triggers and rules in my clustered resource?"

After a little testing I discovered that remote administration of triggers - which includes sitting at machine A and trying to configure them on machine B, or sitting on the local node of a cluster and trying to configure clustered triggers - isn't in the product.

You can see the MSMQ queues themselves but the Triggers branch is not present.

On a cluster you would have some options to get round this:

  • Run the MMCV utility on the local node
  • Launch Computer Management from a clustered command

To manage a remote machine then Remote Desktop or Terminal Services would seem to be what you need.
