Pressing backspace in Microsoft Word doesn't delete the text

This has happened to me a couple of times, and I don't know how, but I got into a state where when in Word, when I selected text and pressed the backspace key, it would move the cursor to the front of the word instead of deleting the text. The delete key still worked.

To fix this, check this box: Tools | Options | Edit tab | Typing Replaces Selection.

Yeah, I hate when that happens, the other doozy is when it Office beeps at you for pressing the backspace key. To fix this it's in Tools/Options/Other (tab) and uncheck "provide feedback with sound". Ugh, I know when I'm pressing the backspace key thank you very much.

Sorry to be OT, but in a previous entry you were going to point someone to resources on how they might remove the reading pane feature from OWA 2003, but the original poster never followed up on it seems and I am dying to know the resources you mentioned. I have been looking up and down for a solution to this and can't find one anywhere!

I have cut and pasted the thread below. Thank you for your time and kindess and sorry again to be off-topic!

    Best wishes,
    Manuel

Is it possible to remove the preview/reading pane so that the users do not have this option when using OWA 2003?

    Thanks

There is no easy configuration option to do this, but it would be possible with a fair amount of programming. If that is something you're interested in, let me know and I will point you at the resources.

There's a whitepaper linked from www.microsoft.com/exchange called customizing OWA, start there. You're looking for something called exchange web forms mainly.
