Hello from the Lync Mobile Team - Introduction to Lync on Mobile Devices

As most of you know, earlier in the year we released Lync 2010 for Windows Phone, iPhone, iPad and Android.  What you probably also know is that we did not blog much about the releases… well that’s about to change.  From this point on this blog will be the best place to learn more about our Lync Mobile clients.  We are going to get started by talking about our current releases and what features they include.  So let’s get started!

    @Poomba1 - Instant message through Lync Mobile is not using SMS.  It will use your Wi-Fi connected if connected to Wi-Fi, otherwise your data connection.

    @Lync Client Photo troubleshooting - Thank you for the recommendation, our primary focus on this blog is on the client side (vs. server and configuration), but I will forward the request to the NextHop blog (blogs.technet.com/.../nexthop) folks. @ShaunInCali - Thank you for the recommendation, I will see what we can do to better document the sign in process. @Walt Brannon – We cannot comment on when features or new versions of products will be released.  We can however take your feedback that video and VoIP audio is wanted…Thank you!

    @VVelasco - You should enter your number in international format (your first example).   If you are able to get a call back on your phone when you place an outgoing call from Lync Mobile then you should use the same phone number for your simulring setting.  If simulring is still not work I would recommend working with your companies Lync support staff. @Elena - It is difficult to determine why you not able to sign into Lync Mobile on your Android device without looking at the logs.  Sign in for you may require the username field to be entered or something could be misconfigured on the server end.  I would recommend working with your companies Lync support staff to determine root case. @Roy & @Mat Adams – I am unable to comment on when features or new versions of products will be released or if they will ever be released.  I will however, take your feedback to our team.   Thank you!

    It would be great if you could write about the autodiscover/connction process at application launch.  Perhaps a flowchart or diagram detailing the each step would help.

    Can you tell us when we will have full video and audio on iPad, Android, and Surface?  Many students have devices that do not support call back.

    Hi Jason, I have problems with the option to have ringing simultaneously my cellular and my Lync on the PC. I don't know which is the correct format to write the number (I'm in Mexico City). I've tried with int'l long distance format (+52155XXXXXXXX), local (044 55XXXXXXXX), nothing works. I hope you can tell me if it is the problem or could be something with our server. BR

    I am trying to log into Lync Mobile on my Android HTC Incredible.  I get the error: "Can't sign in. Please check your account information and try again".  I do not have the Username field showing ..just Sign in address and PW.  My company says it's the phone's fault.  I can't seem to find any answers.  Can you help?

    Can you advise when you will have an update to the Lync client for Android that allows ICS users to install? Google Play won't let me install the client as its the incorrect OS version.

    Is there a mobile SDK for Lync on the roadmap? As a financial services enterprise client our Lync servers are not accessible to the mobile apps, but there is great interest in having lync be part of our internal app strategy.

    Can you explain where IM's are stored on a Lync Mobile device? Our Security team odes not want IM's stored on the device. Is there a way to do this?

    Hi, I have a samsung s5. Can you tell me how to see active conversations and conversation history on Lync 2013 phone app? When I had Lync 2010 on my phone, I could go to the "recent conversations" tab to see that. Thank you for your help. Best.
