Free ebook: Introducing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (second DRAFT preview)

Everybody interested in learning about what’s new in SQL Server 2012, today’s a good day because we’re releasing our second DRAFT preview of Introducing Microsoft SQL Server 2012, by Ross Mistry and Stacia Misner. (Please remember that “draft” means we haven’t completed our editorial/production work on the content.) This version updates the two chapters that appeared in our first DRAFT preview release and adds four more chapters. It contains the boldfaced chapters below:

By the way, Ross and Stacia also wrote Introducing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, which is still available here as PDF and available here as EPUB and MOBI.

  But, where are the mobi and ePub versions? PDF only looks good on paper! Seriously, I use my Kindle to read eBooks while commuting because I have no time to read PDFs at work or at home. BTW, Oracle provides all documentation books in Mobi and ePub formats for free, as well as HTML and PDF. It is a real same that MS hasn't done the same with BOL.

  Is there a reversal of "relative" versus "absolute" functionality as decribed under "Environment References" on pages 96 & 97?

  Lee, I don't believe that there's an error in the Environment References section with regard to relative versus absolute. I read it again, and it looks correct to me. If you can you be more specific with your question, perhaps I can see where the confusion lies and clarify the text as appropriate.

  Relative normally means relative to current position - top level specifics do not matter...   Absolute normally includes top level into the path... So, the section on "Environment References" then says "...a relative environment reference, the parent folder for the environment folder must also be the parent folder for the project..." This sounds like a description of absolute references...  Now, despite my interpretation - I am perfectly willing to accept that Microsoft implemented the references differently than I would expect - my concern was the possibility that this text had instead reversed the two.
