IIS Web Site

An Internet Information Services (IIS) Web site is a unique collection of Web pages and Web applications that is hosted on an IIS Web server. Web sites have bindings that consist of a port number, an IP address, and an optional host name or names.

Internet Information Services (IIS) Web sites that use HTTP rely on several important IIS components for their availability. The Windows Process Activation Service (WAS), the World Wide Publishing Service (W3SVC), the HTTP service, all must be running correctly. In addition, a properly running application pool must be available for the Web site’s applications. If any of these components is not functioning, the Web site will not be available. |

Configuration for an Internet Information Services (IIS) Web site must include a unique site name, site ID, and a separate binding for each protocol that the site uses. You can specify the maximum number of connections, maximum bandwidth, and connection time-out settings for the site. You can also configure site-related logging information, including the logging of failed requests. While you can specify default values for the site's applications and virtual directories, individual application or virtual directory settings can override these defaults. |
