IWMPSettings2::requestMediaAccessRights method

[The feature associated with this page, Windows Media Player SDK, is a legacy feature. It has been superseded by MediaPlayer. MediaPlayer has been optimized for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft strongly recommends that new code use MediaPlayer instead of Windows Media Player SDK, when possible. Microsoft suggests that existing code that uses the legacy APIs be rewritten to use the new APIs if possible.]

The requestMediaAccessRights method requests a specified level of access to the library.

Syntax

public System.Boolean requestMediaAccessRights(
  System.String bstrDesiredAccess
);

Public Function requestMediaAccessRights( _
  ByVal bstrDesiredAccess As System.String _
) As System.Boolean
Implements IWMPSettings2.requestMediaAccessRights

A System.String that is one of the following values.

Value Description
none Current item access rights only.

A System.Boolean that indicates whether the requested access rights were granted.

Remarks

A webpage must first request permission from the user to read information from or write data to the library. Invoking this method prompts the user with a dialog box that requests the specified permission level. This means that certain methods, properties, and events will be inaccessible from code if the appropriate access rights have not been granted. The current access rights level can be retrieved by using IWMPSettings2.mediaAccessRights.

Applications running on the user's computer are not required to use this method.
