IE10 Removing IEMaintenance from Window 7 and Windows 2008 R2

Hi, we just want to share some information regarding some changes introduced with IE10 that may impact the way you manage your Internet Explore Policies.

As the TechNet article "Replacements for Internet Explorer Maintenance" states that:

"By default In Windows® 8, the IEM settings have been deprecated in favor of Group Policy Preferences, Administrative Templates (.admx), and the Internet Explorer Administration Kit 10 (IEAK 10)."

The above statement is also correct for those systems (Windows 7, Windows 2008 R2) where you install Internet Explorer 10 (IE10). Therefore settings which had been defined via IEM will not be processed on machines where Internet Explorer 10 has been installed.

It is also true that the IE Maintenance GPO will be removed from the Group Policy Console. 

From the screenshot below, noticed the Internet Explorer Maintenance is missing:

  Hello,We have IE10 deployed in our organization (from IE8),IEM Cse were cleaned up in GPOs as per KB (support.microsoft.com/.../EN-US) and reset settings already.But we keep on getting IE Branding issues in gpresult in most of our existing users except for users that log in as a new profile/first time to a PC.It seems that IEM is tattooed on the client machines specifically in their profiles, as deleting and reprofiling gets, rid of the issue, but of course we do not want to do that. Where can we remove it without doing a reprofile?Addtionally, I have tried this but no luck: support.microsoft.com/.../2813272Please help! Thanks

  Regarding the question about the error in gpresult ("the specifc procedure could not be found", code 127) :it will stay there - forever. Or at least until the user profile is deleted.The error is part of the RSOP data of the user.And the data for this extension is no longer updated, because the IEM CSE is no longer applied.The only way to get rid of that relict is to delete the whole RSOP data for this CSE.This can be done via Powershell. You will have to loop through all the user specific namespaces and trigger the deletion.Patrick

  Could you pass my thanks on to whoever decided this was a good idea.I love not being able to use the preferences on sites with no Win 8 / 2012 servers - very useful indeed.Seriously, why hasn't support been added for preferences in a Win 2008 R2 domain. Really slack not to include this when you can now install IE10 & 11 in such environments.
