Thoughts on iTunes 7

They've done some cool stuff in iTunes 7. I hope someone comes out with a subscription video service before long. I much prefer the subscription model for music.

The new 3D album art is nice looking (not unlike Max's mantle view!). I find it is pretty unresponsive on my laptop when trying to use it to browse through music, but it's kinda neat to have it up while music is playing.

I used the new album art import feature, but it missed tons of stuff. I'm a bit disappointed. Early on I spent a bunch of time adding album art to my library but gave up at some point because ti took so much time.

Update: I used TuneSleeve as recommended in the comments and it did a great job of finding more artwork in a farily painless way for large batches of pictures. I have to admit I got the apply checkbox UI mixed up the first time and applied the pictures I didn't want! The other nice thing about TuneSleeve is that it writes the data into the files. I think iTunes just puts it into the library and not the file, so you don't see it in other apps and you'll lose it all if you have to rebuild your library. For some strange reason, a bunch of the artwork shows up as black boxes in WMP 11, although it shows up fine in the advanced tag editor. Strange.

Dan, if you're still wanting to add album cover art to your iTunes collection, check out AlbumArtFinder, a small utility I wrote in .Net. It uses Amazon.com to find covers and helps you add them to your songs relatively easily.

    Search for it on VersionTracker.com

    Hi Dan,

Couldn't help but notice that you encountered the same problem as many of us concerning Album Art... I would have thought that Apple would get a lot of effort on this feature since many people misses a good album art importer...

On the other hand, a friend of mine produced a tool called TuneSleeve, which does a pretty decent job at finding and importing album art... If you're interested, take a look, its free (while donations are accepted).
