Hyper-V and Windows Server 2012
The recent launch of Windows Server 2012 has brought many resources online !
To help you find the right content and resources, I’ve aggregated some of them in this post. I’ll also keep it up to date as the product will evolve over time (for example, including pointers to updates and new technical white papers).
Regarding Hyper-V here are few resources that I believe are useful :
- Hyper-V Server 2012 : A free operating system made just to run the virtualization stack. You can download it here : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/hyper-v-server/default.aspx or https://www.microsoft.com/hvs
- Hyper-V Component Architecture posters : On this link you will find several PDF files that represent the components of Hyper-V and how they work together. If you want to print the PDF, make it on an A2 paper size (or even bigger), it will render best.

Happy discovery of Hyper-V.

Hello Igor, with this statement, I mean that Hyper-V Server is Windows Server 2012 with exclusively the Hyper-V role. This means that you get all the capabilities of Windows Server 2012 (like the improved NTFS or the failover clustering) but not any of the roles that you can install on a regular Windows Server 2012 (for example File & Storage services). Hyper-V Server is made to exclusively be the host for virtual machines. With Hyper-V Server you also need a license for all the guests running on this host whereas with Windows Server 2012 Datacenter edition you are provided an unlimited number of virtual licences.Anonymous

Can you please explain: "free operating system made just to run the virtualization stack."?
