The following checklist for Configuration Manager 2007 software updates provides the steps necessary to configure the Software Updates Client Agent settings; plan for, create, and configure the software update point at the site; and synchronize the software updates metadata to the site server database.

Configure the Software Updates Client Agent settings. By default, the client agent is enabled and the settings are sufficient for software update deployment. However, you should determine whether the default settings meet your needs and configure the settings as appropriate. |

Plan for the active software update point at the site. Multiple software update point site system roles can be created at each site, but only one software update point can be active, unless the site is in native mode. When the site is in native mode, one active software update point can be configured to accept both client connectivity from the Internet and intranet or two software update points can be configured for the site: one active software update point that accepts only client connectivity from the Internet and a second active software update point that accepts only client connectivity from the intranet. |

Create and configure the software update point infrastructure using the steps in the appropriate administrator checklist. |

If it was determined to be required when planning for the software update point, configure an NLB cluster to be used as the active software update point. |

Synchronize the software updates metadata from Microsoft Update on the highest site in the Configuration Manager hierarchy (most often the central site) to the site server database. |

If the active Internet-based software update point is isolated and cannot connect to the active software update point to synchronize software updates, use the export and import function of the WSUSUtil tool to transfer the software updates metadata. |
