Device Status and Problem Code Properties

In Windows Vista and later versions of Windows, the unified device property model supports device properties that represent the status and problem code of a device instance. These properties are listed in this section by their corresponding property keys in the unified device property model.

The following information is provided about the device status and problem code properties:

  • The property key that represents the property.

  • The property-data-type identifier that indicates the data type of the property.

  • Whether the property is read-only.

  • Whether the property value is localized.

  • How to access the property.

Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 support these properties. However, these earlier versions of Windows do not support the property keys in the unified device model. Instead, these earlier versions of Windows use different mechanisms to represent and access the properties. The information that is provided with each property key indicates which earlier versions of Windows support the property and provides a link to information about how to access the property value on those operating systems.

For general information about how to access device instance properties on Windows Vista and later versions of Windows, see Accessing Device Instance Properties (Windows Vista).

For information about how to access the status and problem code for a device instance on Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000, see Retrieving the Status and Problem Code for a Device Instance.
