Setting blocked files policy
Applies to: Groove Server 2010
Topic Last Modified: 2010-02-11
This article describes how to set a policy that determines what file types can be blocked from Groove workspaces and Shared Folders. By default, SharePoint Workspace blocks files that have specific extensions from Groove workspaces and Shared Folders. Groove Server 2010 Manager provides an identity security policy that lets you override this list with an edited list of your own. Note that removing file types from the list can increase the risk of virus entry into your system.
This procedure requires that Groove Server 2010 Manager is installed as described in Deployment for Groove Server 2010.
To change the SharePoint Workspace blocked file list on member computers
Log on to the Groove Server Manager administrative Web site, expand Policies, and then click Default or another policy template.
Click the Security Policies tab, and under Blocked Files, select the check box for Override SharePoint Workspace's default list of blocked files to change the Groove default list of blocked files. A text field appears, with the current list of default files. The types of allowed file types are consistent with those specified in Microsoft Office as ‘safe for sharing’.
Edit the default blocked files list with your changes as follows:
To disable file blocking, delete all files from the list. Keep the check box selected after you delete the files.
To change the list, add files to or delete files from the list. You can use the following wildcard characters in any file pattern:
Asterisk (*) to indicate any characters in asterisk position (for example, use *.txt to indicate all files that end with .txt).
Question mark (?) to indicate one character of any value in the question mark position (for example, use ?.txt to indicate all files that have a one-character root, followed by the .txt extension).
Omitting wildcard characters indicates a file of a specific name. For example, .txt indicates a file of the name .txt. It does not indicate all files that end with .txt.
Click Save Changes in the toolbar.
After SharePoint Workspace clients receive this policy from Groove Server Manager, domain members will be unable to work with blocked files in Groove workspaces or Shared Folders. Existing files that are blocked by a new policy are not deleted from user computers, but users will be unable to open them from the SharePoint Workspace application. This policy applies to domain members who are subject to this policy template. For information about assigning policy templates to domain members, see Deploying policies to SharePoint Workspace users.
