Remarks

In the Silverlight content model, InlineCollection only exists as a property value for an object that has a property of type InlineCollection, such as the Inlines property of TextBlock. An InlineCollection object cannot be instantiated directly (in XAML or in code), and it has no default or overloaded constructor.

You cannot explicitly define an InlineCollection property element in XAML syntax. The XAML parser implicitly accesses a preexisting InlineCollection that is held by a TextBlock. It then adds any child elements found in the Inlines property to that existing collection.

In XAML, you include one or more objects that derive from Inline (Run and LineBreak object elements) as child elements of a TextBlock. The order of the Run and LineBreak elements in the XAML is significant because it defines the presentation order in which the elements are rendered in the TextBlock. This is true also for the order of the InlineCollection items if you access the collection items in code.

You do not have to specify a TextBlock.Inlines property element, because Inlines is the XAML content property for TextBlock. For more information about XAML content properties and XAML implicit collection syntax, see XAML Overview.

In addition to the implicit collection syntax of InlineCollection, TextBlock lets you specify content as inner text. You can also set content by setting the value of the Text property as a string. For more information, see TextBlock.

You can view and modify collection contents of the existing InlineCollection through the Inlines property in code.
