Incoming emails are being redirected to the Conversation History folder instead of the inbox. This issue has not occurred previously. What steps can be taken to stop emails from showing up in the Conversation History folder?

Hello @Charlene,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help resolve this issue. Based on similar cases, the most common cause is an Outlook rule that may have been unintentionally configured to move emails to that folder.

1. Check and Manage Your Outlook Rules

  • Open New Outlook for Windows.
  • Click on the gear icon (Settings) in the top-right corner.
  • Navigate to Mail > RulesUser's image
  • Review all existing rules carefully. Look for any rule that moves emails to the "Conversation History" folder.
  • If you find any, disable or delete them using the trash icon.
  • Send a test email to yourself to confirm whether the issue is resolved.

2. Restart Outlook and Your Computer

  • Close Outlook completely and restart your computer.
  • Reopen Outlook and check if new emails are now arriving in your Inbox.

3. Review Skype for Business / Microsoft Teams Settings

  • If you use Skype for Business, open the app and go to Options > Personal.
  • Ensure that settings related to saving conversations in Outlook are correctly configured and not affecting email delivery.

4. Reinstall New Outlook for Windows (If Other Steps Fail)

  • If the issue persists, consider uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook.
  • You can do this via Add or Remove Programs in Windows, then reinstall from the Microsoft Store.
  • Note: This will reset local settings and require Outlook to re-sync your data.

5. Contact Your IT Support Team (For Business Environments)

  • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, your organization's IT department may need to investigate further.
  • They can check for server-side rules, group policies, or Exchange transport rules that might be affecting mail flow.
  • Please share with them the details of what you've observed and the steps you've already taken.

We recommend starting with Step 1, as it's the most common cause for this type of issue. Let us know how it goes after trying these steps, and feel free to reach out if you need further assistance.
