Teams keeps ringing on phone when answered on desktop Teams application --despite option "Block notifications when active on desktop" being enabled

Hi,

I have noticed this (as title says) happening multiple times and now I have received reports internally in our organization from users that experience the exact same issue.

Despite they've answered a Teams call on the Desktop device it keeps ringing on the phone, and sometimes vice versa.
--This happens despite option "Block notifications when active on desktop" is enabled

Thank you for reaching out and reporting the issue where Microsoft Teams calls continue to ring on one device (e.g., mobile) even after being answered on another (e.g., desktop). After reviewing your case and internal documentation, I’d like to clarify the behavior and provide guidance: 

This behavior is by design in Microsoft Teams. 

The setting “Block notifications when active on desktop” is intended to suppress chat and banner notifications, not call notifications. Teams is designed to ring on all signed-in devices simultaneously to ensure the user does not miss important calls, especially in cases where one device may be temporarily unavailable or muted. 

Once a call is answered on one device, the other devices may still briefly ring or show the incoming call screen due to signaling latency or sync delay. This is normal and expected. 

While this behavior cannot be disabled entirely, here are a few suggestions to minimize disruption: 

  1. Mobile Device Settings
    1. Disable Teams call notifications on mobile during work hours. 
    2. Use Do Not Disturb mode on mobile when working on desktop. 
  2. Teams App Optimization
    1. Ensure all devices are running the latest version of Teams. 
    2. Disable battery optimization for Teams on mobile to improve sync performance. 
  3. User Education
    1. Inform users that this is expected behavior and provide guidance on managing notifications across devices.

    Hi Vicky,

    Thanks for the prompt response, and sorry for the delay in mine I've been out sick.

    When you say:
    in cases where one device may be temporarily unavailable or muted. 
    I understand that, but what I'm saying is that even though you've picked up the call on (say for example) the laptop and then it keeps ringing on the phone even though you are inside the call already. I.e the ringing signal **for the call that you're already in never stops.

    Are you really saying this is the expected behavior for the Teams app that the ringing signal keeps ringing even though the call has been picked up?
