Subject: New emails moved to subfolders only show unread count but no desktop alert (Outlook v1.2025.716.500)

Issue Description: After creating a subfolder (e.g., Inbox\ProjectA) and setting up a rule to automatically move emails from specific senders to this subfolder:

New emails display unread counters on the subfolder ✅.

  1. No desktop toast notifications appear ❌ (notifications work only for emails in the root Inbox). How to resolve this?

New Outlook doesn't have an option yet to display a Desktop Alert when a mail is moved to another folder by a rule.

However, this feature is planned for rollout in September; Outlook: Rule to display desktop alert | Microsoft 365 Roadmap

    Hi Zhuo Zhuo18 Wang

Thank you for reaching out via the Microsoft Q&A forum.

We would like to confirm that the behavior you are experiencing is consistent with Outlook’s default settings. However, you may follow the steps below to adjust your rule configuration and enable desktop notifications for emails that are automatically moved to subfolders:

    • In the main Outlook interface, click on the File tab.
    • Select Manage Rules & Alerts.
    • In the window that appears, locate and select the rule that is currently affecting your notifications.
    • Click Change Rule, then choose Edit Rule Settings....

Clicking Next until you reach the screen titled "What do you want to do with the message?"

Under Step 1: Select action(s), check the box labeled "display a Desktop Alert" and click Finish to save your changes.

Once these steps are completed, future emails that match the rule will not only be moved to the designated subfolder but will also trigger a desktop alert.

We hope this will help you resolve the issue.
