Account deactivation email from "The Office Team"

I am getting an email that reads as follows:

Microsoft 365

Attention User,

We are deactivating all Inactive accounts.

Please confirm removed PII@removed PII is active by verifying now.

Verify Your Account

The Office Team

Shortly after this, whenever I send an email, it bounces back with the message as below:

Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:

removed PII(removed PII@removed PII)

Is this a genuine email from Microsoft?

This type of email is designed to trick you into clicking a malicious link and entering your credentials or personal information. Doing so could result in unauthorized access to your Microsoft 365 account, theft of sensitive data, and potential compromise of your device or company systems.

Microsoft does not send account verification requests in this format.

Please take the following steps immediately:

  • Do NOT click any links or download attachments from the email.
  • Report the message as phishing in Outlook by selecting it and choosing Report > Phishing.

If you already clicked the link or entered any information:

  • Change your password immediately and enable multi-factor authentication.
  • Run a full antivirus or security scan on your device.
  • Notify your IT or security team as soon as possible.
