Locked out of Yahoo account due to Microsoft Authenticator issues

A phone was lost over the weekend, and the Microsoft Authenticator app was being used for 2FA on a Yahoo account. After getting a new phone and restoring the authenticator app, the Yahoo account was no longer visible in the app.

Currently, access to the Yahoo account is impossible because it requires a code from the authenticator app, and re-adding the Yahoo account to the authenticator is not feasible without access. Yahoo support has been contacted, but they cannot verify ownership of the account despite having access to all requested verification methods, such as a cell phone and an alternate Gmail account.

Yahoo support suggested reaching out to Microsoft to see if the Yahoo account can be re-added to the authenticator app. Any guidance on this situation would be appreciated.

If you did not make a backup of your autheenticator data and then restore that backup, then only Yahoo can help you, if they offer support. The must remove 2FA from your account and then you will need to reconfigure it as you configured it the first time.
