Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Hi Zem Mircosoft,
Thank you for posting to Microsoft Q&A Forum.
This usually happens when Microsoft does not currently support phone numbers from your country or mobile provider for verification or account recovery. Here are some steps you can try:
1. Double-check formatting
- Make sure you are entering the number with the + sign, followed by the country code, then your number (no leading 0).
Example: +44 7123 456789 (UK), +1 555 1234567 (US).
2. Test with another device/browser
- Sometimes the web form does not accept properly formatted numbers in certain browsers. Try Chrome, Edge, or the Microsoft Authenticator app.
3. Use a supported country code
- Microsoft does not support all country codes. If your country is not listed in the drop-down, you cannot currently add that number.
- As a workaround, you may use another number (friend’s/families, if trusted) from a supported region, then later add recovery methods like email.
4. Add an alternative security method
- Instead of a phone number, you can add a backup email address for verification and recovery.
- Go to Microsoft Account Security Settings > Add security info.
5. Contact Microsoft Support
- If you must use your number and it should be supported, it may be a regional restriction or temporary service issue. Microsoft Supportcan confirm whether your country code is supported.
