A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
Hello Jess Evans,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum!
I can understand how disruptive and inconvenient it must be to have your Microsoft Word app stop opening and allowing document edits, especially as a writer.
According to Microsoft’s official guidance, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint mobile apps for Windows are no longer available: "While they may continue to function after that date, using unsupported software could lead to potential security risks and other issues as no further updates, security fixes, or technical support will be available for them (since October 14, 2025)".
However, there are several alternative ways you can view, create, and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations on a variety of devices:
- Get the Microsoft 365 Copilot app for iOS or Android phones and tablet devices. It’s the evolution of the old Microsoft 365 (Office) app, redesigned to integrate Copilot AI features.
- Use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on the web for free. Learn more.
Note: You don’t need to upgrade your PC apps immediately. As long as both devices use OneDrive and the same account, your files will stay in sync.
I hope this response is helpful to you. Let me know if you need further assistance, I'm willing to support!
