How do we delete or replace an old Outlook email address?

We had an old email address that we no longer use. That email address is ***@outlook.com. We would like to eliminate that email address and use our current email address ***@outlook.com, that we developed a couple years ago and our customers use. We have brought an old computer back into service and we are stuck with the old email address. When trying to change from ***@outlook.com to ***@outlook.com, security is using an older email address for us to use that we don't access to, ***@tds.net.

We would appreciate any help with this as we are concerned that we will miss customer emails.

Dear Aerotech Products, Inc,

Thank you for posting your question to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand how stressful this situation could be, especially when you're concerned about missing customer emails. and I will help you with the correct process to resolve it.

Based on your description, the old computer has revealed that the security information on your ******@outlook.com account is outdated. You are now locked out of that account because the only recovery method it knows is the inaccessible @tds.net email.

To stop your computer from using this account, you must first recover access to it.

For this exact situation—where you can't access any of your registered security methods—Microsoft has a specific, automated recovery process.

Important: This process involves a mandatory 30-day waiting period. This is a crucial security feature to prevent unauthorized users from using this same process to steal your account. This wait cannot be bypassed.

Here are the steps to begin. You must do this on a device you trust (like your current, working computer or phone):

  1. Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page: https://account.microsoft.com
  2. Try to sign in with your ******@outlook.com email address and its password.
  3. When it tries to send a verification code to the ******@tds.net address, look for a link that says "I don't have any of these" or "Show more verification methods" and click it.
  4. Since you cannot access any of the old options, the system will prompt you to add a new security method.
  5. Add a method you can access, such as your ******@outlook.com address or your mobile phone number.
  6. The system will then start the 30-day waiting period.

After 30 days, your new security information will officially replace the old @tds.net address. You will be notified on your new method, and you can then use it to sign in and take full control of the old account.

Once you regain access to ******@outlook.com, I strongly recommend you do not "eliminate" it right away. To ensure you don't miss any customer emails:

  1. Log in to ******@outlook.com (on the web at outlook.live.com).
  2. Go to Settings (⚙️) > Mail > Forwarding.
  3. Enable forwarding and enter your ******@outlook.com address.

This will automatically send any new customer emails from your old address to your new one, so you only have to check one inbox.

After you've done that, you can safely go to the old computer, open the Outlook app, and either Remove the ******@outlook.com account or Add your ******@outlook.com account alongside it.

I hope these steps provide some immediate relief and guidance. I recognize the importance of your email account to you, and I'm here to help you through these troubleshooting steps.

Please let me know how these suggestions work for you, or if you'd like assistance in navigating Microsoft's support channels.

Hi. I'm Brian and I'll try to help.

This forum is dedicated to using classic Outlook for Windows but you seem to be talking about changing the ownership of a computer from one Outlook.com address to another. Doing that is fairly straight-forward. If you can still log into the computer with the old address, you should then be able to convert that account to a local account. Once the account is local, you can then convert it back to a Microsoft account using the new address. The licensing for the computer should follow the change.

If that's not what you mean, please describe your goal more completely.
