Installed Office 2024 last week and now MS Edge will not open

I installed Windows 11 a couple of weeks ago, and Edge worked fine.

Last week I upgraded my Microsoft Office (2007) to Office 2024. After spending most of a day restoring my file associations to previous settings, I found that Microsoft Edge will no longer open.

I have tried

  • Repair of the app.
  • Re-install the app.
  • Repair Windows 11.

... but Edge still will not open. There's a brief 'cursor with blue whirly' but nothing happens, nothing shows in Task Manager, and there's no error message.

The events log includes this (many times) which would seem to be relevant:

Faulting application name: wedge.exe, version: 0.2.2.0, time stamp: 0x63e28691
Faulting module name: wedge.exe, version: 0.2.2.0, time stamp: 0x63e28691

Faulting process id: 0x8B84

Faulting application start time: 0x1DC572CE00595F4

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Wedge\wedge.exe

Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Wedge\wedge.exe

Report Id: 5c8b3519-c91a-41b2-8b10-c310c9675ac5

Faulting package-relative application ID:

Any ideas on how to fix would be welcome!

Hello Mike Cowlishaw,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. It's my pleasure to help you today.

Please understand that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to cover your name in the description. Please notice to hide these personal or organization information next time you post error or some information to protect personal data.

I understand that you are struggling with opening Microsoft Edge. As I see, the faulting module of the reports is Wedge.exe, which is not an Edge component but a third-party tool that could change Edge behavior. In this case, can you please go to Task Manager > Find the process called Wedge.exe and terminate it, then try to reset Edge and open it again?

If that doesn't work, consider go to Settings > App > Installed apps and remove Wedge from your computer. If you cannot find it, please delete the app folder as shown on the reports. Then reset Edge and try again.
