    Hello Tony Bell,

Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand you’re having trouble opening and creating documents after switching to Microsoft Basic.

With your situation, please visit and follow the prompts in this link: "Could not create the work file” error in Office

If it didn't help, you will need to renew your subscription. Because Microsoft 365 Basic does not include desktop Office apps like Word or Excel. It only provides web and mobile versions plus OneDrive storage. If you previously had a plan with desktop apps, those apps will stop working once that subscription ends.

If you need desktop apps, consider upgrading to Microsoft 365 Personal or Family. These plans include full desktop versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint: Explore Microsoft 365 for home

    Hi Tony

Seems as a corporate America is reaching in our pocket again. I feel your pain.
