Hello,

I am having an issue with my Copilot features in Microsoft Word. I can type a passage and click the ink pen after words and usually when I click the ink pen. There is a menu that comes up and there is usually four choices and one of them is "keep writing this". The feature disappeared and I'm not sure why but I would like to learn the steps to restore that feature. I have tried a couple of things but haven't had much luck. Thanks for any and all help.

Hi ABF,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Based on what you’ve tested, it’s helpful to know that the inline Copilot ink‑pen experience in Microsoft Word only appears under specific conditions. If any of those conditions change, Word may automatically hide the option even though Copilot itself is still available.

Here are a few additional details that might be helpful to you:

  • In some Word updates, Copilot capabilities are surfaced more consistently through the Copilot button on the Word ribbon rather than the inline ink‑pen menu. When this happens, the writing assistance is still available, it’s just accessed a bit differently.
  • You can select your text, open Copilot from the ribbon, and use a prompt such as “Continue writing in the same tone” to get the same result.

Copilot features may appear or disappear depending on factors like account eligibility, update channel, document type, or how features are being presented in the current version of Word. Even when everything is configured correctly, the inline option may not always be shown in every scenario. If everything looks correct and Copilot works from the ribbon, that’s a good sign that the service itself is available.

I look forward to receiving your update. Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.

To troubleshoot the issue with the Copilot feature in Microsoft Word where the "keep writing this" option has disappeared, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check if Copilot is Enabled: Ensure that the Copilot feature is enabled in your Microsoft 365 settings. You may need to check with your Microsoft 365 admin if you do not have access to these settings.
    2. Verify Licensing: Make sure that your Microsoft 365 account has the appropriate license that supports Copilot features. If you have recently been assigned a new license, it may take some time for the changes to propagate.
    3. Internet Connectivity: Ensure that your internet connection is stable, as Copilot requires a connection to function correctly.
    4. Update Microsoft Word: Make sure your Microsoft Word is up to date. Sometimes, features may not work correctly if the application is outdated.
    5. Check Privacy Settings: Ensure that Copilot is not blocked by your privacy settings. You can review these settings in the Microsoft 365 privacy controls.
    6. Restart the Application: Sometimes, simply restarting Microsoft Word can resolve temporary glitches.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, you may want to reach out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
