Hello David Quiggle

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand how concerning this is, finding your Outlook account language changed to Russian is a sign your account may have been compromised. Here's what you should do:

1. Change the language back to English (or your preferred language)

In Outlook on the web:

  • Select Settings (gear) in the top-right corner.
  • In the left menu, choose General (the second section)
  • In the right pane, select Language and time (the first tab)
  • Under Language (Country/Region) choose your language (e.g., English)
  • Select Save

2. Secure your account

3. Check for malicious rules/forwarding

Log in to Outlook on the web, go to:

  • Settings > Mail > Rules/ Sweep: delete any suspicious rules you did not create (especially rules that forward, redirect, move, or delete messages)
  • Settings > Mail > Forwarding: make sure nothing is forwarding to any unknown address

If any screen is unclear, tell me exactly which page you’re on and what you see and I'll assist you further. Thank you for your understanding.

To change the language back to your preferred setting in Outlook, follow these steps:

    1. Log into your Outlook account.
    2. Look for the Settings icon (usually a gear icon) in the top right corner of the page.
    3. Click on View all Outlook settings.
    4. Navigate to General > Language and time.
    5. In the Language list, select your preferred language (for example, English).
    6. Make sure to check the box that says Rename default folders so their names match the specified language.
    7. Save your changes.
    8. Refresh or restart Outlook to see if the language has changed back to your preference.

If you are unable to access the settings due to the language barrier, consider using a translation tool to help navigate the settings menu.
