Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Hi Doug Nickell,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.
The message “You can’t access this site right now” means your account is in a 30-day security protection period because all your previous security information (such as email or phone used for verification) was replaced. This protection period will end on February 6, 2026. During this time, any changes that require a security code, like updating your password, changing your sign-in email, or managing aliases, are temporarily blocked to keep your account safe.
For more details, see: What does “Security info change is still pending” mean?
1. If you started this change and want to cancel it
- Go to the Security page: https://account.microsoft.com/security
- Look for the banner that says “Your security info change is still pending”, click “Cancel this request”, and follow the steps
Note: You need at least one old verification method to complete the cancellation
2. If you wait until the 30-day period ends
On February 6, 2026, you can:
- Go to Your info > Manage how you sign in to Microsoft
- Add your current email as an alias (or create a new @outlook.com address)
- Verify the email by clicking the link in the confirmation message
- Set the new email as Make primary so it becomes your main sign-in email
- (Optional) Remove the old alias if you no longer use it
3. If you cannot receive verification codes now
- At the verification screen, choose Other ways to sign in / Show more verification methods to try Microsoft Authenticator, a backup email or phone, or the 25-character recovery code if you saved it before
- If none of these work, use the Recover your account process: https://account.live.com/password/reset and follow the steps to regain access, then update your security info
