Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
Hello Dan Smith
Thank you for reaching out to our Q&A forum.
Based on what you have described, it seems that you are experiencing a known issue affecting classic Outlook for Windows that started occurring after the Windows Update (KB5074109) on January 13, 2026.
Microsoft's official announcement can be found here: Classic Outlook POP account profiles will be discontinued and stopped after updating KB5074109 Windows 11
To better understand your situation, could you please check if the account you are using is a POP account and if you have Windows Update KB5074109 installed on your device?
If you have an update installed, you may want to consider uninstalling the KB5074109 and restarting your computer. Here's how:
- Open Settings → Windows Update
- Select Update History
- Scroll to Uninstall Updates
- Find KB5074109
- Click Uninstall and restart your PC
Note: Uninstalling updates may temporarily reduce your security posture, so consult your IT administrator if you are in a managed environment. You can also try pausing automatic Windows updates to prevent the affected KBs from being reinstalled. Pause updates in Windows
Also, if the PST file is synced with OneDrive, it may cause instability and corruption issues, so please remove the Outlook .pst data file from OneDrive or move it to a different location.
You can also use webmail as a temporary method until the issue is resolved.
Try this method and let us know the result. I look forward to hearing from you.
