Hello kevin abdillah,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!

I understand that you are having issue with adding payment method. I truly understand how you feel. Let me assist you go through this situation.

Based on your information, I suggest you try these steps:

1. Check your Microsoft Account region

Visit: https://account.microsoft.com/profile
Make sure:

  • Country/region = your actual billing country
  • If incorrect > change it (requires closing MS balance if any).

If you’re using a personal Outlook.de account (as your memory shows), the region is often automatically set to Germany. If your credit card is from Canada/Italy/etc., Microsoft will reject it.

2. Remove ALL old payment methods

Go to: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments

Remove:

  • Old cards
  • Expired cards
  • PayPal accounts

Microsoft sometimes “remembers” an old card number and blocks new ones.

3. Add a payment method using a PC browser

Use Chrome or Edge (InPrivate/Incognito).
Then add your card

Be sure:

  • The billing name matches the card exactly
  • No special characters
  • Postal code and city match the bank’s official record

4. Contact your bank

Ask them to enable:

  • Online international purchases
  • Recurring payments
  • Merchant category: MICROSOFT / MSFT BILLING

Banks often block first‑time Microsoft transactions.

5. Contact Microsoft support

If the situation persists, please contact Microsoft support for the best assistance.

  • Visit this site: Contact – Microsoft Support
  • Type Contact in the search box.
  • Now, click on Get Help and select Contact Support or enter below to contact support.
  • Go to the Products & Services tab and choose Microsoft 365 / Office – Subscription, account, billing
  • Go to Confirm.
  • You can now choose the Chat with a support agent option in your web browser.

Please note that the chat support team only works during certain working hours. Therefore, if the last window indicates that you are unavailable, try opening it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. That way, they can call you and help you.

I hope this will help with your situation. Please feel free to reach back if you have further update or more questions.

Best Regards,

If you are unable to add a payment method to your Microsoft account and are receiving an error message, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

    1. Check Card Details: Ensure that all the details you are entering (card number, expiration date, name on the card, and billing address) are correct and match exactly what is on your card and bank statement.
    2. Country/Region Restrictions: Make sure that the payment method you are trying to use is issued from the same country/region as your Microsoft account. If it is not, you will need to use a different card that meets this requirement.
    3. Contact Support: If you continue to experience issues after verifying the details and ensuring the card is from the correct country/region, it may be helpful to contact Microsoft support for further assistance. They can help identify if there are any issues with your account or the payment method.
    4. Try Different Browsers: Sometimes, browser issues can affect the ability to add payment methods. Try using a different browser or clearing your browser's cache and cookies.
    5. Check for Outstanding Payments: If there are any outstanding payments on your account, it may prevent you from adding a new payment method. Make sure all previous payments are settled.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, contacting support would be the best course of action to get immediate help.
