As of 2/2/26 all my new emails are now going into the "other" tab instead of the "focused" tab.

Hi @Jones, Linda R

Thank you for posting your question in the Q&A Forum.

It appears that your Focused Inbox sorting algorithm may require a manual reset to function correctly again.

To resolve this, please follow the steps below based on the version of Outlook you are currently using:

  • Outlook for Web / New Outlook (Windows): Click the Settings in the top right corner > Mail > Layout. Under the Focused Inbox section, select "Don't sort my messages" and click Save. After a few moments, re-select "Sort messages into Focused and Other" to refresh the filter.
  • Classic Outlook (Desktop App): Navigate to the View tab on the top ribbon and toggle the Show Focused Inbox button off and back on.
  • Outlook for Mobile: Tap your profile icon > Settings > Focused Inbox and toggle the switch off and on.

For any specific email that’s in the Other tab, right-click (or long-press on mobile) and select “Always Move to Focused” to ensure future emails from that sender appear in Focused.

Please let us know if the issue continues or if you need further assistance.

If your new emails are consistently going into the "Other" tab instead of the "Focused" tab, it may be due to the way Outlook's classification system is currently categorizing your incoming messages. The Focused Inbox feature learns from your interactions and can sometimes misclassify emails based on recent patterns.

To improve the situation, you can manually move emails to the "Focused" tab, which will help train the system to recognize which messages are important to you. Additionally, you can set up overrides for specific senders to ensure their emails always go to the "Focused" tab. This can be done programmatically through the inferenceClassification property of a message or by using the Outlook interface.

If the issue persists, it may be worth checking if there are any problems with the Autodiscover process that could be affecting the classification of your emails. You can use the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer to test this.

We are having multiple persons in our environment reporting similar issues about focused inbox not working correctly. As from around the same time. The "resetting process" above does not work.
