I need to remove my outlook license from Fin365 as I have left their platform. I originally purchased the license and I will lose all of my business emails if I cannot renew it. My admin access has been removed and I can't get anywhere with the Fin365 administrators who will let it lapse.

Hi @Richard Meaden

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, your Outlook/Microsoft 365 license was provisioned through Fin365, which means your mailbox exists inside a Microsoft 365 tenant administered by Fin365, and access to it depends on a license assigned within that tenant. Since you’ve left their platform and no longer have admin access, you cannot renew, transfer, or detach the license on your own.

It’s important to note that Fin365 is a third-party financial services provider, not Microsoft. They manage Microsoft 365 accounts within a tenant they administer. When you joined their platform, a user account was created for you in that tenant, and a Microsoft 365 license was assigned to that account.

Even if you paid for the subscription, the license is owned and controlled by the tenant, not by your personal Microsoft account. Only Fin365’s administrators can remove the account or reassign the license. If the subscription is allowed to expire, the mailbox in that tenant will eventually be deleted according to Microsoft’s retention lifecycle.

In most implementations, Fin365 does not create a separate tenant per customer; instead, they create user accounts within a tenant they control.

I hope this helps clarify how your mailbox and license are currently managed.

If you need to remove your Outlook license from Fin365 and are concerned about losing access to your business emails, it's important to understand the process involved in license management within Microsoft 365. When a license is removed from a user, their data is retained for 30 days, during which you can access or restore the account if necessary. After 30 days, the user's content is permanently deleted (except for documents stored in SharePoint).

Since your admin access has been removed, you may need to contact the Fin365 administrators again to ensure that they understand the importance of either retaining the license or restoring access to your account before it lapses. If they are unresponsive, you might consider escalating the issue or seeking assistance from a higher authority within the organization.

If you have any specific permissions or roles that allow you to manage licenses, you may want to check if you can regain access to perform these actions yourself.
