    Hi Ross Plowman

Thank you for reaching out in the Microsoft Q&A Forum. From your post, I understand you’re trying to look for solutions related to app password problems in Classic Outlook for Windows.

To help me guide you more specifically, could you please share a bit more information, such as:

    • Are you using a personal Microsoft account (Outlook.com/Hotmail/Live/MSN), or a work/school account (managed by your company/school)?
    • Are you using two‑step verification / MFA on that account?
    • What exact message/error do you see?
    • Can you sign in to the same mailbox successfully in a web browser?

In case Outlook keeps asking for a password, please try clearing old credentials:

    1. Close Outlook
    2. Open Control Panel > User Accounts > Credential Manager
    3. Under Windows Credentials, remove entries related to Outlook/Microsoft Account
    4. Reopen Outlook and sign in again

Looking forward to your reply so I can assist you further. I'm happy to help!

I have found out since that I was using a Microsoft App Password and not a Google App Password in Outlook Classic. Problem fixed.

If you are experiencing issues with app passwords in Outlook Classic, there are a few solutions that have been found helpful by other users:

    1. Advanced Setup: Some users resolved their app password issues by entering the app-specific password directly into the Outlook interface instead of the Apple Sign-in page. This suggests that there may be a discrepancy in how the authentication process is handled.
    2. Clearing Cached Credentials: If Outlook keeps prompting for a password despite having saved credentials, clearing cached credentials in the Windows Credential Manager can help. This involves removing any entries related to Outlook or Microsoft Office and then restarting Outlook to re-enter your credentials.
    3. Modern Authentication: Enabling Modern Authentication can also resolve persistent credential prompts. If your organization is still using Basic Authentication, consider switching to Modern Authentication.
    4. Certificate Issues: In some cases, repeated password prompts may be related to certificate issues. It is advisable to check if the Logon network security setting in the Microsoft Exchange dialog box is set correctly.
    5. Creating a New Outlook Profile: If issues persist, creating a new Outlook profile can help bypass any corrupted settings in the current profile.

These steps can help address common app password problems in Outlook Classic and improve the overall experience.
